A chilling photo captures Gary Plauché just seconds before he sh*t the man who had been abusing his son.
On March 16, 1984, authorities escorted Jeff Doucet through Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport in handcuffs. Doucet had been arrested in California after kidnapping 11-year-old Jody Plauché, taking him across the country, and abus*ng him while hiding out in an Anaheim motel.
He was being flown back to Louisiana to face charges.
What no one knew at the time — not Doucet, not the officers, not even the news crews filming the transfer — was that Jody’s father, Gary Plauché, was in the airport waiting. He had slipped a .38 revolver into his boot and positioned himself near a bank of payphones along the route officers would take.
As Doucet walked past, surrounded by law enforcement, Plauché stepped forward, turned toward him, and fired a single shot to Doucet’s head at point-blank range. Doucet d*ed instantly, and the moment was captured live on local television.
The k*lling became one of the most widely viewed vigilante acts in American history — and remains a controversial case to this day.
