On 25 October, 2025, emergency responders sped to a home in Opelousas, Louisiana, after receiving a call about a two-month-old baby who wasn't breathing.
Despite the paramedics’ best efforts, the girl was pronounced dead at the hospital. She had lived only 60 days - barely two months on this earth. She should have been safe. She should have been cradled, fed, loved. Instead, she suffered unimaginable cruelty at the hands of the two people who were supposed to protect her most.
An autopsy revealed the baby had endured severe neglect and physical abuse throughout her short life. She had broken ribs; some already healing, evidence the abuse had gone on for some time. She was severely dehydrated and malnourished, her small body wasting away. Most horrifically, her lower spine had been severed, causing internal bleeding that ultimately killed her.
The girl’s parents, 20-year-old Kaylee Fontenot and 18-year-old Taylor Broussard, had exclusive custody of their daughter since birth. No one else had cared for her. Police arrested Fontenot immediately after obtaining warrants. Broussard fled but surrendered days later on 3 November. Both face charges of first-degree murder, cruelty to juveniles, and second-degree battery.
Opelousas Police Chief Graig LeBlanc said: "Our hearts are with this infant who suffered unimaginable abuse."
