 Father Fatally Shot Mother, Then Tossed Newborn in Freezing River


A Tennessee man accused of killing the mother of his child and throwing his newborn daughter into the Mississippi River is now standing trial.

Brandon Isabelle, 25, was arrested on February 2, 2022, and charged with two counts of first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, and tampering with evidence. Investigators say he admitted to fatally shooting 27-year-old Danielle Hoyle and discarding their two-day-old baby, Kennedy Hoyle, in the river.



Prosecutors allege Isabelle was motivated by a new romantic relationship. Both Isabelle and Hoyle had met while working at FedEx, but after Hoyle became pregnant, Isabelle began seeing another woman. According to prosecutors, the woman did not want to be involved with someone who had another child.


On January 31, 2022, Hoyle gave birth to Kennedy. Isabelle visited her at the hospital but was allegedly texting his new girlfriend during the visit, who was discussing breaking up. Isabelle tried to convince her to stay with him. The next night, he arranged to meet Hoyle under the pretense of bringing clothes for their newborn. They agreed to meet at the Mapco convenience store.


Later that evening, Memphis police were looking for stolen vehicle and came across Hoyle’s abandoned car on the wrong side of the road with a shattered window. Her body was found nearby; she had been shot in the head. Kennedy was missing, prompting an Amber Alert.

The infant’s car seat was later located in a Walmart parking lot, but there was no sign of Kennedy. During police questioning, Isabelle allegedly confessed to luring Hoyle to a secluded area, shooting her, and then throwing the baby and the gun into the Mississippi River at the Upper Mud Island Boat Ramp.



Prosecutors presented surveillance footage that shows Isabelle at the river, where he tossed the infant into the dark, cold water by her leg.

Despite reportedly admitting to the killings, Isabelle has pleaded not guilty. His trial, which began September 23, is ongoing.
