Before the age of 16, Lori Mattix claimed to have slept with David Bowie and started a relationship with Jimmy Page

Image
In the 1970s, Lori Mattix was a "baby groupie" who hung out with rock stars. She purportedly lost her virginity to David Bowie, had a relationship with Jimmy Page, and once had sex with Mick Jagger on a bathroom floor. "I didn't go to high school prom," she later remarked, "because I was too busy living the Hollywood prom." Now, decades later, Mattix maintains that her relationships were consensual but acknowledges that she was just a "child" at the time — and many of her romantic liaisons are seen in a very different light today.  Before the age of 16, Lori Mattix claimed to have slept with David Bowie and started a relationship with Jimmy Page — and that was just the beginning. When comedian Phil Hartman was murdered by his wife Brynn on May 28, 1998, America was devastated

Image
After his wife Brynn started using drugs again after 10 years of sobriety, Phil Hartman warned her that if she got high again, he would take their two children and leave. Later that night, Brynn walked up to Hartman while he slept in their bed and shot him between the eyes, in his neck, and in his chest — then turned the gun on herself. When comedian Phil Hartman was murdered by his wife Brynn on May 28, 1998, America was devastated — but his friends had seen the warning signs for years. On May 28, 1998, Phil Hartman died at the age of just 49 — when his wife Brynn Omdahl Hartman murdered him inside their Los Angeles home before killing herself. America was shocked to see the headlines about how Phil Hartman’s wife shot him dead in a grisly murder-suicide. However, to friends who’d known the couple for years, Phil Hartman’s death was a long time in the making. When John Esposito was building his dungeon, he had only one person in mind: Katie Beers. On December 28, 1992, Katie Beers was lured away from their home in Bay Shore, New York, by a friend of her family, John Esposito. It was two days before her 10th birthday. He took her to his home, and for more than two weeks she was locked up in the underground bunker while being frequently raped. The 6-foot by 7-foot bunker was located under his garden and accessed via a 6-foot long tunnel. The entrance was a 200-pound concrete door hidden by a bookcase in his office. The bunker was fitted with a toilet and a CCTV camera. His initial plan was to keep Katie captive for the rest of her life and have children with her. When the search for her got heated, he turned himself in 17 Days In Hell- The Horrific Abduction Of Katie Beers Katherine Beers was kidnapped and held captive for 17 days in an underground bunker. UPDATE!! Arkansas Parents’ Charges Upgraded to Murder After 7-Year-Old Son Starved to Death Russellville, Ark. — Prosecutors have upgraded charges against Chris Freeman, 39, and Katelyn Freeman, 27, to murder after investigators determined their 7-year-old son died from deliberate starvation and abuse. The case began when the Freemans rushed the boy to Dardanelle Regional Medical Center last week. Doctors found him pale, limp, and weighing only 28 pounds. He was transferred to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock, where staff said his condition reflected years of chronic malnutrition. He did not survive. Police later searched the family’s home on Sandstone Circle and discovered a closet converted into a cell. Investigators said the child was often tied with rope inside, with human waste on the floor and heavy wear on the walls and door fixtures. Authorities also found well-stocked food supplies and thousands of dollars in cash, raising questions about the ...

22-year-old David Bain came home after delivering newspapers on the morning of June 20th,1994 to discover his family had been wiped

Image
22-year-old David Bain came home after delivering newspapers on the morning of June 20th,1994 to discover his family had been wiped out in their Dunedin, New Zealand family house. In a state of panic, he called the emergency line exclaiming "They're all dead, they're all dead." Examining the crime scene, David became the prime suspect. There were thoughts that the incident was a case of murder-suicide but the proposition was not upheld for long. On the crime scene, the rifle used to commit the crime was found lying close to Robin Bain, David’s father, but surprisingly it only had David’s finger print. Also on the crime scene was a message on a computer that read "sorry, you are the only one who deserved to stay". David was questioned but he could not give account of what transpired between the time he came home and his calling the emergency number. There was close to 30 minutes delay, he claimed he passed out. He also sustained bruises and cu...

On September 19, 1991, while hiking in the Ötztal Valley of the Austrian Alps, German couple Erika and Helmut Simon made a startling discovery

On September 19, 1991, while hiking in the Ötztal Valley of the Austrian Alps, German couple Erika and Helmut Simon made a startling discovery. They stumbled upon what they believed to be the remains of a lost mountain climber, preserved in the ice. But their find was far older than they imagined—scientists later dated the body to over 5,300 years ago. The mummy became known as Ötzi the Iceman, one of the most significant archaeological discoveries of the 20th century, offering an unprecedented look into Copper Age life. Surrounding Ötzi were a remarkable array of tools and possessions that had been preserved alongside him. These included a finely crafted copper axe, a flint-bladed knife in a woven sheath, a bow with unfinished arrows, and two wooden containers lined with maple leaves. Pieces of a backpack, a leather pouch containing small tools, and his clothing—made of leather, fur, and plant fibers—gave researchers a detailed understanding of his life and survival in ...

Nobuo Fujita: The Story of the Only Japanese Pilot to Bomb Mainland America

Image
Nobuo Fujita: The Story of the Only Japanese Pilot to Bomb Mainland America On 9 September 1942, though, something happened that had never happened before: an enemy plane bombed the contiguous United States. There had been rumors of bombers over Los Angeles the previous December, but those were ultimately proven false. And, of course, U.S. territory in one form or another was bombed in Guam, Hawaii, Alaska, and a few other areas in the Pacific, but those were not part of the continental US. Nobuo Fujita flew a floatplane from the long-range submarine aircraft carrier I-25 and conducted the Lookout Air Raids in southern Oregon on September 9, 1942, making him the only Axis pilot during World War II to aerial bomb the contiguous United States. Japanese submarine I-25, with a crew of about 100, surfaced before dawn on 9 September 1942 just off the coast of Oregon after crossing the ocean outside of normal shipping lanes. The location was not chosen by chance: the I-25 was quite...

Laughing at Auschwitz: SS Auxiliaries Pose at a Resort for Auschwitz Personnel, 1942

Image
Laughing at Auschwitz: SS Auxiliaries Pose at a Resort for Auschwitz Personnel, 1942 Laughter lines the faces of camp staff as they prepare for a sing-song. These photos were taken between May and December 1944, and they show the officers and guards of Auschwitz relaxing and enjoying themselves — as countless people were being murdered and cremated at the nearby death camp. In some of the photos, SS officers can be seen singing. In others, they are hunting and in another, a man can be seen decorating a Christmas tree in what could only be described as a holiday in hell. The album also contains eight photos of Josef Mengele — some of the very few existing snapshots taken of the concentration camp’s notorious doctor during the time he spent there. This first page shows Hoecker, right, with the commandant Richard Baer. 1944. The images are significant because there are few photos available today of the “social life” of the SS officers who were responsible for the mass murder a...

Stephen Slevin, a man in his 50s, was arrested in 2005 for driving under the influence of alcohol

Image
Stephen Slevin, a man in his 50s, was arrested in 2005 for driving under the influence of alcohol, but he never had a trial. Incapable of making bond and being judged as śuicidal, he was thrown into solitary confinement in New Mexico county. For almost two years, he was completely isolated from the outside world. No sunlight and no human contact. The guards did nothing to help him despite his cries. In response, he was regularly drugged. Slevin decayed physically and mentally. Along with his hair and beard growing out, his toenails grew to curl beneath his toes. His dental hygiene became so poor that he removed one of his own teeth. After nearly two years in isolation charges against him were dropped and he was released. Upon release, Sleven demanded an explanation and compensation. There were some clues as to the cause for the neglect. The medical director at the facility had apparently administered sedatives to Slaven without ever visiting him. The court eventually settled on ...

From 1940 to 1944, Corrie ten Boom and her family used their home in the Netherlands as a hiding place for Jews who were fleeing the Nazis.

Image
After the Nazis invaded the Netherlands in 1940, a Dutch watchmaker named Corrie ten Boom and her family decided to build a secret room in their home. For four years, they would use this room to hide Jews — and save them from the Holocaust. Guided by their Christian faith, the ten Boom family sheltered as many Jewish refugees as possible until they could be transported away to safety. And by the time an informant tipped off the Gestapo in 1944, they had helped rescue more than 800 people. The Inspiring Story Of Corrie Ten Boom, The Dutch Watchmaker Who Saved 800 Jews From The Holocaust From 1940 to 1944, Corrie ten Boom and her family used their home in the Netherlands as a hiding place for Jews who were fleeing the Nazis. The watchmakers had a secret. In their home above the family shop on Barteljorisstraat in the Dutch city of Haarlem, they had built a safe room. There, Corrie ten Boom, her sister, and their father would save the lives of some 800 Jews fleeing the Nazis. ...

In 1921, archaeologists uncovered an extraordinary find in the Danish village of Egtved:

Image
In 1921, archaeologists uncovered an extraordinary find in the Danish village of Egtved: the remarkably preserved burial of a teenage girl from the Bronze Age, now famously known as the Egtved Girl. Radiocarbon dating places her life between 1390 and 1370 BCE, and she was believed to have been just 16 to 18 years old when she died. Her body lay inside a burial mound within a coffin carved from a hollowed oak tree and wrapped in a bull hide. The acidic soil of the region—normally destructive to organic remains—preserved much of her clothing, hair, and even traces of soft tissue, creating one of the most detailed snapshots of prehistoric life ever found. Standing about 1.6 meters tall, the Egtved Girl was slim, with short blonde hair and carefully groomed fingernails, suggesting a concern for personal appearance. Her clothing was striking: a short-sleeved wool blouse that left her midriff bare and a skirt made from twisted woolen cords—an outfit rare for the time and still vi...
