Washington Teacher Venmoed Gas Money to Student to Keep Relationship Going.

A former high school teacher in Washington state sent cash for gas to a 17-year-old student through Venmo while they were involved in a relationship that started online, according to court details reported by the New York Post.

McKenna Kindred, now 27, used to teach at Central Valley High School in Spokane Valley. Things kicked off in June 2022 when the teen spotted her Instagram account and they began exchanging messages that included explicit texts, photos of her breasts, and videos.

By fall 2022 the boy's mom, Ashley Beckley, noticed her son got gas money through Venmo from someone she later learned was a teacher and thought it seemed off at the time.

In November 2022, while her husband Kyle was away on a hunting trip, Kindred had the student come over to their place. The two spent about three and a half hours together, according to texts and her later admissions. After that, messages showed the teen saying stuff like he could satisfy her.

Other texts mentioned them nearly getting caught on school grounds, with one saying she felt sad when another student walked in and she wanted to be held.

By December 2022 the teen's friends had seen screenshots of the racy messages and shared them with another teacher, who alerted Spokane Valley police. Beckley gave investigators photos and videos the student had received plus details on the conversations.

Kindred got arrested in March 2024 and confessed to the misconduct. She pleaded guilty to second-degree sexual misconduct with a minor and communication with a minor for immoral purposes. At sentencing she got two years of probation, had to pay about $700 in fines and fees, and must register as a sex offender for 10 years. No jail time was part of the deal.
