On July 14, 1991, Gregory Green stabbed his pregnant wife Tonya Clayton Green ten times in the neck, face, chest, and back in their Detroit home. Both Tonya, who was six months pregnant, and their unborn child died. Green called 911, told officers what he had done, and showed them the murder weapon stashed in the refrigerator. He pleaded no contest to second-degree murder in 1992 and was sentenced to 15 to 25 years in prison.
Green was denied parole four times before being released in 2008 on his fifth attempt. Pastor Fred Harris, a Detroit civil rights activist, wrote letters supporting his release. After his parole, Green married Harris's daughter, Faith Harris-Green, becoming stepfather to her two children. The couple had two daughters together.
On September 21, 2016, Green murdered all four children. He shot his stepchildren Chadney Allen, 19, and Kara Allen, 17, execution-style in front of their mother after binding her with duct tape and zip ties. He slashed Faith's face with a box cutter and shot her in the foot. Green then poisoned his biological daughters, five-year-old Koi and four-year-old Kaleigh, with carbon monoxide in a running car. Faith survived.
Green pleaded guilty to four counts of second-degree murder in 2017 and was sentenced to 45 to 100 years in prison. He will be 97 before being eligible for parole.
