In April 1981, the body of a young white woman was found in a ditch on Greenlee Road in Newton Township, Ohio. She was wearing a buckskin poncho, so investigators called her the "Buckskin Girl."
That same day, her body was examined. It was found that she had suffered serious injuries to her head and neck before being strangled to death about 48 hours before her body was found.
Despite many years of hard work by investigators, the identity of the Buckskin Girl remained unknown for over 30 years.
On April 9, 2018, the Miami Valley Regional Crime Laboratory announced that they had identified the woman as 21-year-old Marcia Lenore King from Little Rock, Arkansas.
Marcia had last been seen by her family in 1980. Although she wasn’t officially reported missing, her family had kept searching for her.
The identification was made possible by detailed DNA testing. Sadly, the person who caused her death has still not been found.

WOW! This happened to one of my best friends. Her identity was not found for 22 years. Sooo sad.
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry to hear about your best friend. The fear, anxiety, stress, uncertainty, false hope, and seemingly endless sleepless nights her loved ones and friends (meaning you), went through and with the passing of time, the guilt when her memory crept in from the edges during accomplishments, marriages, births, holidays, and celebrations. I can't imagine what feelings hit you all like a freight train upon the discovery of her remains. And my heart goes out to her during her final moments. I am truly sorry for the loss of your best friend and I am glad she is finally "home."
DeleteHow does a family not report their daughter, sister, niece, and granddaughter missing when they're any age but especially when they're 21 and during an era when serial killers were prolific? Shame on the family. "They never stopped searching" - I call BS. If they cared, they would have strived to use any tool at their disposal searching for her. With their lackadaisical efforts, I doubt if they even care to find her killer.
