A 28-year-old man has been convicted of first-degree murder in the brutal 2022 killing of his estranged wife… But it’s what he did after her death that’s shocking. 

Zarbab Ali was found guilty on Friday following a trial that revealed he not only stabbed Rachel Castillo to death but also desecrated her body after initially burying it.


The crime unfolded on November 10, 2022, when Ali reportedly lay in wait outside Castillo’s apartment in Simi Valley. According to court testimony and police reports, he entered the home undetected, hid, and attacked the 25-year-old mother of two as she exited the bathroom, stabbing her multiple times in the chest. Castillo, who was pursuing a master’s degree and described by family as a dedicated parent and student, did not have defensive wounds, indicating the assault was swift and unexpected.

After the killing, Ali transported Castillo’s body to a remote desert area in Littlerock, California, where he buried her. The following morning, he returned to the site, exhumed the remains, and SA’ing her body before reburying it in the same location. Ali confessed to these acts during a police interrogation shortly after Castillo’s body was discovered on November 13, 2022.
