Virginia mom finds illegal immigrant raping daughter, 11, after he renovated bathroom
"The first time occurred a few days prior in the bathroom of the home when the victim's parents were not home, and the second and third times occurred at night when he entered her bedroom," authorities said.
An undocumented migrant was sentenced to 30 years in prison after he admitted to repeatedly raping an 11-year-old girl from Virginia.
Ricardo Leonel Mejia, a 34-year-old migrant from El Salvador, was sentenced on Oct. 7 after pleading guilty to three counts of raping a victim under 13, Virginia Beach Commonwealth’s Attorney Colin D. Stolle announced in a press release.
Eventually, the mom was able to open the door with a butter knife, finding the man in the middle of sexually assaulting the 11-year-old. The mom recognized Mejia as the man she had hired to renovate one of the bathrooms in their home.
“The mother then yelled for her husband. Mejia jumped out of bed, grabbed some of his clothes, exited the bedroom through an open window, and ran away,” the press release read.
The victim told police that the defendant had vaginal intercourse with her. A physical examination was conducted on the victim, and forensic analysis determined that Mejia’s DNA and spermatozoa were present on the victim,” it continued.
Authorities later interviewed Mejia, to whom he admitted having a “relationship” with the child despite knowing she was underage. He said he jumped out of the window because he was scared of confrontation with the victim’s father.
He added that the night he was caught was the third time he had raped the 11-year-old.
The first time occurred a few days prior in the bathroom of the home when the victim’s parents were not home, and the second and third times occurred at night when he entered her bedroom,” the press release detailed.
Following his sentencing, the Department of Homeland Security confirmed the man was undocumented. According to the Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office, Mejia will serve his 30-year sentence and then be transferred to ICE custody.
“Ricardo Leonel Mejia’s crimes are unthinkable. This monstrous individual repeatedly raped an 11-year-old child in her own home,” said DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “ICE lodged an arrest detainer to ensure that after his prison sentence, he is removed from our country and not be able to prey on any more innocent children.”
She also blamed the Biden administration for the crime, saying it allowed criminals to enter the country unlawfully. According to the statement, an immigration judge terminated Mejia’s removal proceedings on July 25, 2023, after he was marked as a non-enforcement priority.
