Just below the glittering casinos and neon signs of Las Vegas lies a secret world most tourists will never see — a labyrinth of flood-control tunnels stretching hundreds of miles under the city.



Down there, far from the Strip’s glamour, an estimated thousand people live — veterans, addicts, and families who lost everything. They’ve built makeshift homes with furniture, shelves, and even decorations, turning the dark tunnels into fragile sanctuaries.


They live in constant danger — one flash flood could wipe out everything they own. Yet many say they prefer the quiet, the privacy, and the peace below to the chaos above.


It’s hard to imagine that just a few feet beneath the jackpot bells and champagne toasts, people are fighting for survival in the shadows of America’s brightest city.

The next day, the owner of a car wash contacted police to say their CCTV camera caught what looks like an abduction. In April 1981, the body of a young white woman was found in a ditch on Greenlee Road in Newton Township, Ohio. She was wearing a buckskin poncho, so investigators called her the "Buckskin Girl." That same day, her body was examined. It was found that she had suffered serious injuries to her head and neck before being strangled to death about 48 hours before her body was found. Despite many years of hard work by investigators, the identity of the Buckskin Girl remained unknown for over 30 years. On April 9, 2018, the Miami Valley Regional Crime Laboratory announced that they had identified the woman as 21-year-old Marcia Lenore King from Little Rock, Arkansas. Marcia had last been seen by her family in 1980. Although she wasn’t officially reported missing, her family had kept searching for her. The identification was made possible by detailed DNA testing.
