FATHER KILLED HIS 4 KIDS, PUT THEIR BODIES IN CAR TRUNK, NOTIFIED POLICE MONTHS LATER!!
A North Carolina father has been charged with the murders of his four children after allegedly calling 911 to confess to the crime.
Wellington Delano Dickens III, 38, was arrested Tuesday night at his home in Zebulon, about 20 miles east of Raleigh, according to the Johnston County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies responded to the residence around 10 p.m. after Dickens reportedly told emergency dispatchers that he had killed his children.
When officers arrived, Dickens directed them to the garage, where he said the children’s bodies could be found inside the trunk of a car. Investigators discovered what appeared to be multiple bodies in a two-door Honda sedan.
Authorities later identified the victims as Dickens’ biological children — Leah Dickens, 6; Zoe Dickens, 9; and Wellington Dickens, 10 — along with his 18-year-old stepchild, Sean Brassfield. A three-year-old boy, also Dickens’ son, was found alive and unharmed inside the home.
Investigators believe the children had been dead for several months. Court records indicate they may have been killed around May 1, 2024. Dickens was arraigned Tuesday and charged with four counts of first-degree murder. He is being held without bond at the Johnston County Jail.
Records show Dickens’ wife, Stephanie Rae Jones Dickens, died suddenly at home in April 2024, leaving behind five children. Her obituary described her death as unexpected. Just a year earlier, Dickens’ father had been killed in a truck accident in Lee County.
Family members said Dickens, an Iraq War veteran, had struggled since returning from military service and grew increasingly withdrawn after his wife’s death.
“He seemed fine when I last saw him about a year ago,” said Charles Moore, Dickens’ great-uncle. “You hear about things like this happening to other people, but you never think it will happen in your own family.”
Neighbors described the discovery as devastating.
“My heart just breaks for the children — and especially for the 3-year-old left behind,” said neighbor Debra Riley. “He has no parents or siblings left.”
Another neighbor, Fran Majkowski, said the tragedy has rattled the quiet community.
“I walk by that house almost every day,” Majkowski said. “I never saw the kids playing outside or him mowing the lawn. They kept to themselves.”
She added that neighbors tried to support Dickens after his wife’s death. “Everyone in the neighborhood came together to help,” she said. “It’s just so hard to understand how something like this could happen.”
Dickens is scheduled to appear in court again on Wednesday. If convicted, he faces life in prison without parole or the death penalty.
