The victim was named locally as Wayne Broadhurst who tragically died at the scene.
A vigil took place at Midhurst Gardens on Tuesday night as crowds laid flowers and lit candles following the horror attack.
The triple stabbing also left a 14-year-old boy with injuries and a man, 45, badly hurt with “life-changing injuries”.
It is understood that the suspect, a 22-year-old Afghan national who was arrested at the scene, had arrived to the UK in a lorry in 2020 and granted asylum two years later.
A witness told how the victim of the stabbing was “very well known” around the area, reports the Daily Mail.
They said that a knifeman was “chasing a man and a boy around the road and a local man who was with his dog tried to stop it” before he was allegedly stabbed.
Another local told the outlet: “He’s a lovely guy, very gentle and peaceful.
He was just trying to help and it’s ended up costing him his life.”
Other locals claimed to have witnessed an altercation between the injured man and the suspected knifeman after he came out of a house of multiple occupancy.
It was then claimed by witnesses that the alleged knifeman stabbed a “dog walker” who tried to intervene multiple times, reports the Standard.
Ben James, 28, told the outlet: “I have got a family member who lives at the top of this road where the incident happened. Screaming and shouting – that’s all she heard.
“As I came here there were piles of blood.I saw two people on the floor and there was a tent up as well.
