DAYCARE OWNER ALLEGEDLY GOT DRUNK, FELL ASLEEP NEXT TO BABY, AND SUFFOCATED HIM!!
California- Authorities in Manteca are investigating the death of a 5-month-old boy who stopped breathing at a licensed daycare Wednesday.
According to the Manteca Police Department, officers responded around 1:25 p.m. to the 2300 block of Merlin Lane following reports that an infant had become unresponsive at Cherished Years Daycare.
When officers arrived, an adult was performing CPR on the child, identified as Christian Olvera. Police took over lifesaving efforts until Manteca Fire and paramedics arrived. Christian was transported to a local hospital and later transferred to Oakland Children’s Hospital, where he died on October 24.
Investigators said there were no visible signs of trauma, and the cause of death will be determined through an autopsy.
The daycare’s owner, Roxanne Helus, was found to be intoxicated and was arrested on suspicion of felony child endangerment, police said. She has since been released on bail.
Due to the child’s death, investigators said additional charges are expected, including causing the death of a child under 8 years old.
At the time of the incident, there were four adults and three other children at the daycare. The other children were unharmed.
Officials from California Community Care Licensing are assisting with the ongoing investigation. Authorities have not yet said how long Helus has operated the in-home daycare or whether there have been previous complaints or violations.
"We hear about this happening all the time, and you never think it's going to happen to you," said Christian's aunt, Erica Valdivia. "It's just been an unbearable pain and loss for our family.”
The investigation remains active.
