Ricardo López, often referred to as the Björk stalker, was a quiet exterminator from Florida. He was shy, reclusive, and lived alone. Inside his apartment, he recorded a video diary that eventually stretched over 18 hours, documenting a growing detachment from reality. At the center of it all was Björk, the Icelandic pop singer.
He titled the recordings “The Best of Me,” but the content revealed something far more unsettling. Over time, López convinced himself that the singer had wronged him, despite the fact that they had never met. His fixation gradually became more intense and concerning.
In 1996, López recorded a final video and mailed a package intended to cause harm to the singer. Authorities intercepted the package before it reached her. Shortly afterward, López took his own life, an act he recorded himself.
Police discovered the recordings during their investigation. Many who have viewed parts of the footage have described it as deeply disturbing, particularly his expressions near the end. Following the incident, Björk increased her personal security and became far more cautious in her interactions with fans.
