On the morning of January 30, 2026, a care worker arrived at a home on Mott Close in Mosman Park, Perth, Western Australia, for a pre-arranged visit to assist two teenage brothers. The carer discovered a note containing words to the effect of "don't enter" along with directions to contact emergency services immediately. Police were called at approximately 8:15AM.
When officers entered the property, they found the bodies of Jarrod Clune, 50, his partner Maiwenna Goasdoue, 49, and their sons Leon, 16, and Otis, 14.
The family's two dogs and a cat were also found dead at the scene. Detective Inspector Jessica Securo stated the case was being treated as a suspected murder-suicide. Police indicated it did not appear to be a violent incident, with no weapon appearing to have been used. A second note was found detailing how the family wanted their finances arranged following their deaths.
Investigators revealed that both teenage boys had severe non-verbal autism and faced significant health challenges. The family had engaged with care services and reportedly struggled to access adequate support. Friends claimed the family had recently lost government funding through Australia's National Disability Insurance Scheme for one of the boys' support services. Maiwenna Goasdoue, known as Mai, was active in online support groups and described her sons as being at the higher end of the autism spectrum.
Friends and former support workers described the parents as loving but exhausted and isolated. They reported the couple experienced chronic sleep deprivation as the boys never slept at night. Friends stated the parents felt abandoned by family, friends, support services, schools, and the healthcare system. Both boys had previously attended Christ Church Grammar, a private school in Perth's western suburbs. Otis had been expelled two years prior over a spitting incident.
