Mom Dropped Newborn in Porta Potty... Where She Drowned


A 38-year-old New Mexico woman has been arrested and charged after allegedly giving birth to a baby girl in a portable toilet and placing her in the holding tank, where the infant drowned.



Staff at Memorial Medical Center notified police that Jimenez had arrived at the hospital appearing to have recently given birth, but without the baby. Jimenez's boyfriend, who transported her to the hospital, informed officers that they had been at Burn Lake earlier, and she had spent time in a portable toilet there.


Officers responded to the area off Burn Lake Road and discovered the newborn's body in the holding tank of a portable toilet. Las Cruces firefighters recovered the lifeless infant, who was pronounced dead at the scene.


Investigators believe Jimenez gave birth to the live baby, cut the umbilical cord, and then allegedly dropped her into the holding tank. Authorities stated that Jimenez's boyfriend was unaware of the pregnancy or birth, and no charges are anticipated against him.


Sonia Cristal Jimenez was taken into custody on Wednesday by the Las Cruces Police Department. She is being held without bond at the Dona Ana County Detention Center.
