George Stinney Jr. was the youngest person to be sentenced to d*àth in the United States during the 20th century. At just 14 years old, he was executed in the electric chair. Throughout his trial, he maintained his innocence and was often seen holding a Bible in his hands.
Stinney, an African American teenager, was accused of m*rdering two white girls—11-year-old Betty and 7-year-old Mary—whose bodies were discovered near the home where he lived with his family. He was executed with an electric shock of 5,380 volts to the head. Seventy years later, a judge in South Carolina officially exonerated him, acknowledging that he had been wrongfully convicted.
It was later revealed that the m*rder weapon—a beam weighing over 19 kilograms (more than 40 pounds)—would have been too heavy for someone of Stinney’s size and strength to lift, let alone use with enough force to k*ll the two girls!!.
