The final photo of Kris Kremers, a Dutch tourist who disappeared with her friend Lisanne Froon during a jungle hike in Panama on April 1, 2014.


When their families stopped receiving daily updates, they flew to Panama on April 6 and joined police in a ten-day search with no results. 



Ten weeks later, a local woman found a backpack with Froon’s belongings, including phones and a camera.

The phones showed repeated failed emergency calls. Froon’s died on April 4, while Kremers’s was turned on intermittently until April 11, often with the wrong PIN entered. 

The camera contained 90 flash photos taken in darkness, including one showing bl*od on Kremers’s head.

Two months after the backpack was found, scattered remains, including a pelvis and a boot with a foot inside, were recovered and identified as the two women. What happened to them remains unsolved.

That same day, her body was examined. It was found that she had suffered serious injuries to her head and neck before being strangled to death about 48 hours before her body was found. Despite many years of hard work by investigators, the identity of the Buckskin Girl remained unknown for over 30 years. On April 9, 2018, the Miami Valley Regional Crime Laboratory announced that they had identified the woman as 21-year-old Marcia Lenore King from Little Rock, Arkansas.
